The Programme

Get Ireland Walking was set up in 2013 as a nationwide initiative to promote walking in Ireland.  There are many partners and collaborators involved in the roll out of this initiative.

On a local level Kerry Recreation and Sports Partnership are responsible for the promotion of walking in Kerry. To aid them with this task Let’s Get Kerry Walking was setup in 2012.  It has been given a new lease of life in December 2017 when the position of community walking programme facilitator was filled.  This is a part time position dedicated solely to the promotion and encouragement of walking at a community level.

The key tasks of this position are to

  • Implement the setup of at least two new community walking groups
  • Organise a community based Let’s Get Kerry Walking Weekend
  • Organise further training for community walkers through the Irish Heart Foundation walk leader training.
